Interview Tips

First impressions DO count!  And you don't have long to make this impression (approximately 30 seconds to be accurate) so keep this in mind when attending job interviews.

Here are some tips for making your interview work for you:

  • Look the Part! Dress appropriately and professionally, but wear something you feel comfortable in.  A suit would be recommended for most corporate environments.
  • Body Language matters!  You would be surprised at how much can be communicated without even speaking!  When you first meet your interviewer, make sure you stand up, smile, make eye contact and offer a firm handshake. Be careful not to fidget and look the interview in the eye when speaking with them.
  • Prepare!  Build your confidence by being prepared for the interview. Your recruitment consultant will brief you on the role, but it's a great idea to do your own research too.  Take a look at the company website to review their values, structure and organisation - a great way to impress your interviewer amd show your interest in the role!
  • Research! Make sure you are know where you are going - don't risk getting lost and being late for your interview.  Look at a street map beforehand and make sure you research nearby parking / transport options.
  • Confidence Counts.  It is natural for some people to feel nervous prior to interview, but remember to make the most of this time you have in front of your potential future boss!  Act confident, even if you don't feel that way - "Fake it til you Make it"
  • Smile!  An employee with great skills AND a friendly personality? Winning Combination!
  • Ask Questions - think about what questions you may want to ask prior to interview.  Not only is asking questions a great way to find extra information but it shows your interest in the role.
  • Thank the interviewer for their time and considering your application.
